Pets have been part of our lives since time immemorial; though people’s cultures vary from region to region “the love of a pet” is their thing in common. People raise pet for different reasons, they pick animals to keep according to their preferences and type of personality. In most cases, dogs are one of the most favorites among pet owners. Their cuddly, cute, small and lovable personality makes them a winner among animals.
Pomeranian for instance is one of the most favorites among dog owners and breeders. Their compact and sturdy body mixed with their lively personality makes them a champion in the heart of people. Pom, as commonly called is a breed of dog descended from the spitz type and which was named after Pomerania in Central Europe. They have a small sturdy and proportioned body and small erect ears. Their eyes are mostly black, almond-shaped and bright and they have an upright muzzle.
The coat of a Pomeranian is double; it has a soft, fluffy undercoat and a straight and long outercoat which should be kept trimmed and combed properly to prevent excessive shedding. Early Pomeranians have white or black colors but due to different breeders they were able to get different colors such as cream, red, orange, sable, blue, black and tan, brindle spotted or a combination of these colors. Common Pomeranians usually have orange, black or white and cream colors.
These breed of dogs have cheerful, alert, intelligent and independent personality. They are often bold and sometimes temperamental but Pomeranians are very loyal to their masters and family and when trained properly they make a perfect toy dog. These breeds though affectionate are not clingy; they can play and entertain themselves, they are always curious and can learn different tricks. With improper training and spoiling however they tend to be demanding, hard headed and bossy.
The standard Pomeranians are usually 7-12 inches long but vary from parentage. They have the average life of up to 16 years when properly taken care of. These dogs like any other breed are prone to heat strokes due to its thick double coat so it’s best to keep them indoor especially during hot weather.
Common serious disease of a Pomeranian includes dislocated patella, eye infection and heart ailments but these illness can be prevented with proper care and veterinarians help. A pom loves to bark a lot too so it’s best to train it with proper behavior while young to prevent future problems.
