Taking The Dog On Vacation

Even though a little planning is often required, individuals and families taking their dogs along on their vacations is an increasing practice. This is hardly surprising when considering the reasons and benefits of doing so.

Having your beloved pup in tow can really allow you to relax whilst on vacation. Safe in the knowledge that your dog is healthy, happy and well cared for means that you will have one less home-related concern occupying your mind. A break can be really beneficial to your dogs own mental health also. A new environment to explore should see your dog injected with an abundance of energy.

Dog is a great companion
Families – particularly young children – may not wish to be separated from the family dog for a long period of time. The familiarity of a pet can make the experience of being away from home a far smoother experience and can help top alleviate the symptoms of home sickness. For members of the older generation who are looking for a particularly peaceful break, a dog can make a great companion for solo vacations – far quieter and less bothersome than their hoard of grandchildren!

Walking with your dog
Your dog would not only make a great addition to any walking vacations you may take but your dogs’ presence on any trip will see your exploring and taking in more of the sights, due to their requirement for daily walks. The extra walking will also help you keep off some of the extra calories you may intake via holiday food and drink indulgence too – always a bonus!

Save money
Taking your dog along on your vacation can also end up far less expensive than hiring the use of a kennel for a week or two as there are plenty of resorts that acknowledge the desire for canine accommodation and thus provide such. Using these facilities is quite simple if you are taking a vacation close to home so you’d be barking mad not to take advantage of them!

However, taking a pet across borders and via plane travel can require a lot of organising however. The Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) exists to prevent the spread of diseases like rabies and as such, your dog will have to be vaccinated and chipped before they are allowed to travel. You will also have to acquire a pet passport for your dog.

Investigating the options and requirements well in advance is recommended for those travelling with their dog for the first time.

Excellent article for new dog owners like me who want to learn about looking after their animal. There appears to be so much to know that it is overwhelming, but sites like this really help. Cheers!
